Morro Bay,CA

In the 30 years of camping we’ve enjoyed with our family we’ve seen the kids learn to love the camping experience, grow up, and then begin their own camping traditions. Now that it’s just the two of us again we’re still drawn to our favorite campgrounds here on the West Coast when we’re not traveling east on longer trips. The only difference now is that we are sans kids and arrive at our camp spot on Sunday afternoons! Over the next couple of months we’ll write about these special places and invite you to do the same!

This picture was taken at a place we really love and go back to year after year. We’ve taken at least two maiden voyages with new rigs to Morro Bay State Park over the years. We discovered this magical area on our way up the coast back in the 80’s and fell in love with it and the abundant wildlife. It’s no secret that this campground is still one the best for amenities and location so make your reservations 6 months in advance!

We love to walk into town for the clam chowder, smoked fish, and shopping for artwork! The kayaking is unbelievably beautiful (you can put your boat into the water just across the street) and the sea otters are friendly! http://www.parks.ca.gov/pages/594/files/MorroBayFinalWebLayout020211.pdf There is space between the campsites which are big enough to accommodate tents and at least two vehicles.
